Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Police say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then located many other marked automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials stated they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.
A high-ranking official said the attack made him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a assailant targeting residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
